AOTR Trade Tax Explained

Updated 2026-11-06

Tax depends on what you receive, and on whether that line is gems or gold.

Family bills are gems and they step with rarity. Mythic families sit at 50,000 gems after Patch 37 cut them down from 100,000. Legendary families sit at 15,000 gems after that same patch cut them from 35,000. Epic families sit at 2,500 gems. Rare and Common families are written as free of that gem bill. Helos therefore costs the receiver 50,000 gems on top of the 3,330 key conversation. Leonhart costs 2,500 gems on a 10 key name. The gem hit is the story, not the key number.

Cosmetics use a different ladder. The trading notes I saved run from 37 gems up to 5,625 gems by rarity, with leaderboard cosmetics called out at 100,000 gems and some event or mythical cosmetics at 200,000 gold. Bambietta's Wings and Ulquiorra's Wings both carry the 5,625 gem line. Equinox Moon and Cinderlord carry a 100k gold line. I refuse to tell you those are the same kind of pain.

Artifacts are quoted in gold at roughly 32k, 72k, 140k, and 200k depending on the band. Perk gold runs 0 for the cheap end, then 72k to 144k, 140k to 280k, and 480k to 960k. The mythic perks on this site use the top of that last band: 480,000 gold unenhanced and 960,000 gold at +10. Serums are 5,000 gems. Crates are 450 gems in the same notes.

Open the calculator, pick the two names, and read the tax strings under the percent gap. If you only remember one rule, remember who pays: the receiver.

Questions

Does the sender pay?

The wiki says the player who receives the item pays that item's tax. Both directions of a swap can create a bill.
